On August 29 at 6:00 p.m., the final event of the research group 1+X research and development project “Development of the 1+x modular system, development of the technological module and investigation of the use of straw as a material” will take place in EKA.

During 15 months, preliminary studies, sketch projects with different approaches have been prepared and a 1+X modular system has been developed to create buildings with different plan solutions, programs and appearances. A finished installation PÕHULA(va) was designed and built for the 2024 Arvamusfestival in Paide, where, among other things, the project was introduced to a wider audience.

As the project is nearing its end, the 1+X team invites everyone to the open area of the 4th floor of EKA on August 28 at 6 p.m., so that all those interested can take part in the exhibition introducing the project and the closing event.

1+X is a six-member research group, which includes architects with a background in EKA and an engineer. 1+X started in 2022, when it won 1st place at the Future of Wood: Rebuild Ukraine makeathon held in EKA. After that, the team applied for the support of the student engineering development project put out by the joint institution of EAS and Kredex in order to move the project forward. The application received a positive response, and in June 2023, a 15-month journey was started to explore design in a pattern system, develop a techno module, and look for ways to integrate straw into the construction sector.
The research group includes: Triinu Amboja, Valerii Krinberg, Roosmarii Kukk, Rasmus Meema, Aneth Traumann, Liispet Viira.

The project is financed from the state budget from the funding of research and development activities.
