A Shade Colder – New Issue Out Now

The new issue of A Shade Colder, Whispers in the Landscape was published on 22 November. It is third issue of the magazine and accessible on the website ashadecolder.com

With this issue, we are looking at landscape from a variety of perspectives/voices – as it is tightly connected to the sense of identity, through tradition and folklore but equally so through political, economic and ecological concerns.

The contributors of the issue are Keiu Krikmann, Eglė Rindzevičiūtė, Vaim Sarv, Kärt Ojavee, Natalia Sielewicz & Alison M. Gingeras and Vaida Stepanovaite. The editorial is written by Kaarin Kivirähk. The new addition to the magazine is the podcast Majickk sound, in the first episode the host Marika Agu together with artist John Grzinich introduces the landscape of Estonian sound art.

A Shade Colder Magazine aims to draw connections between art in Estonia and elsewhere in the world by highlighting shared stories, provide deeper analysis and also capture more short-lived occurrences. A Shade Colder strives to be a useful tool for working within and introducing this part of Europe internationally. Together with a variety of artists, writers, curators, designers, performers, architects and other creative minds, based both in Estonia and abroad, we aim to critically rethink how to speak about Estonian art on the local and international level.

The magazine’s editors include Kaarin Kivirähk as the editor-in-chief and Keiu Krikmann as the managing editor of the magazine. The rest of the CCA’s team, Marika Agu, Maria Arusoo and Sten Ojavee serve as the editorial board. The graphic design is created by Jojo&me (Johanna Ruukholm and Martina Gofman). For the most part, A Shade Colder is published online, accompanied by one or two print issues per year. Each issue is published under a specific theme and publishing schedule follows the seasonal logic of the Estonian and international art calendar.
