Rector Elections

The Estonian Academy of Arts has announced the election of its rector. The rector will be elected for a five-year term through an open competition. The new rector will be appointed on the 31st of January 2025.

The election of the rector are governed by the rector elections regulation.

The members of the rector’s election committee for 2025 are prof. Jüri Kermik, prof. Ott Kagovere, Kristi Laanemäe, prof. Marge Monko and lecturer Anneli Porri. The secretary of the election committee is Dagmar Raide.

Timeline

  • On the 31st of October 2024 the election of the rector was announced.
  • The 2nd of December 2024 was the deadline for submitting nominations for rector.
  • On the 3rd of December 2024, the rector candidates were announced. Hilkka Hiiop and Kirke Kangro are the candidates for the rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts.
  • By the 18th of December 2024 the rector candidates must submit their programmes to the election committee. The CVs and programmes of the rector candidates were published in Estonian on EKA’s homepage.
  • On the 28th of January 2025, starting at 16:00, a public debate of the rector candidates will take place in the Estonian Academy of Arts assembly hall (A-101). A live broadcast will be available via ERR.
  • On the 31st of January 2025, starting at 14:00, the rector will be elected at the election meeting, which will take place in the academy’s Assembly Hall. At the election meeting, the members of the Electoral Assembly will vote by secret ballot. The candidate who receives more than half of the votes cast shall be elected.
  • The term of office of the new rector will begin on the 4th of 2025.
