Anne Pikkov, vice-rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) and member of the CUMULUS management board, presented the Cumulus Green 2024: Designing Healthy Future award at the Cumulus conference in Monterrey, Mexico on October 17, 2024. “These students have proven themselves as leaders in the field of design. Their contributions are not just innovative solutions but inspiring examples of how design can serve humanity in profound and meaningful ways. Each project here represents not only talent but also a deep commitment to creating positive, lasting change”, said the vice-rector. The award invited all students from Cumulus member universities to submit art and design projects that contribute to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: “Good health and well-being”. The competition aims to explore how art and design can play an important role in promoting global health and well-being by addressing challenges such as disease prevention, access to healthcare and overall public health. Anne Pikkov was the leader and main organizer of the competition this year. The international Cumulus Green jury recognized three winners and 35 mentions among the best projects presented in the categories of products, services and systems. EKA has two ERASMUS+ partner universities in Mexico: Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Mexico City and Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) in Monterrey. In recent years, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, two-way study migration has taken place between EKA and their Mexican partners. Cumulus Green 2024 focuses on design for health and well-being, seeking to inspire creatively thinking students around the world to contribute to shaping a healthier and more prosperous future. The competition highlights a global resource issue and challenges the art and design community to find creative solutions to support universal health and well-being. The purpose of the competition is to contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The Cumulus Green 2024 competition is organized by the Cumulus Secretariat in cooperation with the Cumulus Management Board. Health and wellness through design is a rapidly evolving field that recognizes the important role of design in improving individual and collective health. This includes design processes that aim to foster innovation in products, services and systems that have a direct impact on health. From healthcare environments to lifestyle products, this field spans prevention, treatment and overall holistic well-being, supporting thoughtful and innovative design solutions that improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.
