BAUA Awards 2024 featured: Diana Drobot

The BAUA Awards 2024 competition, organized by the Baltic Architects Unions Association (BAUA), was won by Riga University of Technology student Katrīna Marta Peizuma’s master’s thesis on the experimental preservation of architectural heritage. Diana Drobot, a student of the Estonian Academy of Arts, earned the jury’s mention, whose thesis deals with the restoration and reuse of post-mining industrial landscapes. Diana graduated this year from EKA’s architecture and urban design curricula with her master’s thesis  “SINKING&SHRINKING – Adapting to Subsidence on an Example of Shrinking Kohtla-Järve City”

The prize-winning work was selected by an international jury: architect, founder of pihlmann architects Søren Pihlmann from Denmark; ARHIS architect Raimonds Saulītis from Latvia; and architect Mae Köömnemägi (Makespace) from Estonia.

The event was organized by the Estonian Architects’ Union in cooperation with the Lithuanian Architects’ Union and the Latvian Architects’ Union. The event was supported by the Cultural Foundation of Latvia, the Cultural Council of Lithuania, the Estonian Cultural Foundation, Knauf, Ruukki, Jures Glulam, Lumont, Darnu Group, Thermory, Koderus and Exterus, the Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn University of Technology.
