Bookbinding Design
EKA opens a new door – bookbinding minor
Book made by Maarika Karm
In bookbinding design minor, visual and form-based design are combined. Since a bookbinding is simultaneously a unique object, a mass-printed communication medium, and a functional item, a bookbinding designer can work both in galleries on solo exhibitions and in creative agencies on everyday projects.
Students who enroll at EKA in the 2025/26 academic year can take a minor in one of the following study programs:
– Graphic design
– Fashion, Textile, and Accessory design
This is an ideal choice for graphic design students interested in books and printed materials. In the bookbinding design minor, students will hone their skills and knowledge in paper, industrial, and experimental (artist) books. The common aspect between accessory design and bookbinding is leather and its traditional techniques. The minor also provides an opportunity to work with form design, such as exclusive packaging, origami small forms, or richly decorated hard-structured box-bags.
