A record 370 entries were received for the 7th design award competition. In 2024, awards were given in 25 categories. The Bruno Lifetime Achievement Award, named after EKA professor emeritus Bruno Tomberg, the founder of Estonian design education, was awarded to interior architect, designer and EKA professor emeritus Mait Summatavet, one of Estonia’s most experienced designers. He has been exceptionally prolific in his work — from the design of small items to large-scale interior solutions for public spaces and exhibition designs. Summatavet’s works are characterized by elaborateness and practicality down to the details, the result is always organized and complete solutions placed in a certain rhythm. As a teacher, he has significantly guided the development of Estonian design image. The Design Education Award went to Ruth-Helene Melioranski, Dean of the Design Faculty of EKA. The Best Service Design Award in the public sector was awarded to the Estonian Academy of Arts’ project “A complete, Collaborative and Human-centered Treatment Journey of Endoprosthetics”. The Young Designer Award Säsi recognized the designer, the co-founder and CEO of the biotechnology company Myceen, which develops mushroom materials, and EKA alumnus Siim Karro. The jury appreciated his contribution to the development of Myceen, where Karro acts as a designer, product developer, marketer and sales trigger. It was highlighted that in addition to the company developing the industrial production technology of mushroom material, Karro has also managed to establish itself as a personal and forward-looking designer. Since September 24, all the works of the laureates have been presented at an outdoor exhibition in Tallinn’s Uue Turu Square (behind the Estonian Theatre). The exhibition will remain open until October 20. The Estonian Design Awards, which are issued every two years, are organized by the Estonian Design Center together with the Estonian Designers’ Union, ADC*Estonia, the Chamber of Service Economy and the Estonian Academy of Arts. For the first time, the Estonian Design Awards were jointly awarded in 2012, the product design award BRUNO has been awarded since 2006.estidisainauhinnad.ee More information
