Estonian Academy of Arts triumphs at “Habitus Baltija 2016”!

The International Competition for Young Fashion Designers “Habitus Baltija 2016’’ just finished with tears of joy, fever-pitched screams of delight and new, exciting opportunities for emerging designers. The title of best fashion designer went to Mariliis Niine (Estonia) and the Estonian Academy of Arts won the Best Fashion School Award.

The best fashion and design school

Eight fashion and design colleges contended for the best fashion school title: Art Academy of Latvia, Riga Technical University (Latvia), Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, University of Applied Sciences “Vilniauskolegija” (Lithuania), Estonian Academy of Arts (Estonia), Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design, the International Costume and Fashion Design School (Poland) and Mimar Sinan Universityof Fine Arts (Turkey).

The competition was fierce and judges worked hard to determine the winner – the Estonian Academy of Arts. The Minister for Culture of the Republic of Latvia Dace Melbārde warmly congratulated the winning fashion design college and bestowed to its representative the Habitus Baltija 2016 Grand Prix statuette.

The best young fashion designer

The collection “LegGOdt” by Mariliis Niine, a student of Estonian Academy of Arts, instantly conquered the hearts of judges. This was her first collection, even though she emerged as the winner among 30 finalists and took home the Best Young Fashion Designer Prize of “Habitus Baltija 2016”.

Giovanni Ottonello, Professor of IED Group presented to Mariliisthe certificate entitling her to attend the Summer Courses at IED Barselona, and ViestursTīle, Chairman of the Board, BT 1, bestowed the winner a money prize ¬ EUR 800.

The 2nd place in the individual competition and the certificate for participation in the Summer Courses of the prestigious international school of fashion “ESMOD” went to Una Bērziņa (Art Academy of Latvia) for her collection “CANCEL / PRINT”.

The 3rd place in the individual competition and thecertificate for participation in the International Young Designers Competition “Russian Silhouette” went to Kristina Vyzaite (Vilnius Academy of Arts) for her collection “2093”.

Favorites’ prizes

Magdalena Plonka, Director of the International School of Textile and Fashion Design (Poland) highly appreciated performance of finalists and presented her prize – a week of paid course at the International School of Costume and Fashion Designin Warsaw – to three finalists of her choice: Mariliis Niine (Estonian Academy of Arts), Una Bērziņa (Art Academy of Latvia) and Morta Nakaite (University of Applied Sciences “Vilniauskolegija”).

Laima Ūdre (Collection “Multum”, Art Academy of Latvia) and Anna Spånberg (Collection “Wilderness”, Beckmans College of Design, Sweden) got the certificates for participation in the Cracow Fashion Week.

Igo, a popular Latvian musician and creator of his design label “Igo. Akcents Personībai”, presented his favourite’s prize to the student of the Arts Academy of Latvia Una Bērziņa (Collection “CANCEL / PRINT”).

The certificate for participation in the Fashion and Photography Festival “Fashion Mill” in Minsk, Belarus, and the favourite’s prize from the representatives of ERKI Fashion Show in Tallinn went to Liucija Kvasyte (Vilnius Academy of Arts) for her collection “God Save the Punk”.

The most liked collection on Facebook

Last week, every user of the social network “Facebook” had an opportunity to vote for their favourite”Habitus Baltija 2016″ collection and thus the title of Moste Liked Collection was presented to Agnese Meistare and Anna Elizabete Kasparsone for their collection “Field Rows”. The prize was bestowed by Model Launcher, a sponsor of “Habitus Baltija 2016”.

Panel of judges – world-renowned fashion experts

The collections of “Habitus Baltija 2016” finalists were judged by an international and professional jury chaired by Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor and a long-time Design Director, H&M (Sweden).

The panel of judges included Giovanni Ottonello,Professor at the IED Group (Italy),Brenda Emmanus,Arts, Culture and Entertainment Correspondent for BBC London News (United Kingdom), Anne Viallon, International director at ESMOD International group (France), Andrey Subarew, Fashion Designer, Art Director of the EURO FASHION AWARD (Germany), Charlotte Delobelle, Sales Export Manager at Carlin Creative Trend Bureau (France),and Evita Dokāne, Head of Fashion at Triumph International (United Kingdom / Germany).

The jury also included fashion experts from Latvia – Dita Danosa, Chairman of the Board of Latvian Fashion Chamber (Latvia), Elīza Drāzniece, Fashion Buying, Sales and Brand Manager (Latvia), and Iveta Vecmane, a style designer (Latvia).
