The studio led by Markus Kaasik and Andres Ojari is focused on the typology of a public building and the conceptualization of a public space. The more detailed thesis topic is selected by the student. Starting with the questions why, where and how, students will eventually reach the more specific issues related to space and design. The topics generally aim to conceptualise various socio-cultural, economic and environmental issues with a focus on the potential user of the space. Lately students have been interested in forgotten or even abandoned spaces in need of reconceptualization. These are often located in small towns with a decreasing number of residents, former monofunctional settlements or barren oases in large cities. What is the potential of given spaces at present and in the long run? What are the tools and extent of intervention capable of initiating discussion on the given public space? These are the questions the studio aims to answer.
