Gardeners’ Dialogue

As artists and designers we are affected by the ecological crisis like everyone. We found that art and design practices relating to nature can support interconnectedness with nature if people are involved in the creative process. Rethinking existing knowledge takes place through creative practical activities in a dialogic environment. An environmentally conscious creative process is facilitated by considering the affordances of the environment and experiential participation. Collaboration and focusing mediated by art or design activities creates connections with the place, other humans and non-humans and helps to see the meaning in less. The role of the artist and designer becomes the initiator and mediator of dialogic processes. The creative research method cards to inspire artists and designers, lecturers, and teachers in their creative practice was published. Six methods: “The Gardeners’ Dialogue”, “Decomposing the resource-intensive patterns of action”, “Interweaving with the rest of nature”, “Ritual Slowing down in the Garden”, “Exercises for Interspecies Co-creation” and “Aesthetics of decay, wear and tear and confusion” enhance conscious doing less in art and design from various aspects and contribute to increasing the connection with nature.
