The workshop which took place in Tallinn and Koeru from 29.08 – 02.09.2021 was dedicated to different methods and approaches in cleaning of stone objects and wall paintings. In the theoretical part both ethical and philosophical aspects of conservation were discussed. An overview was given of the theory and approaches towards cleaning of stone objects and wall paintings, of examples of types of deposits and secondary interventions, of cleaning techniques and materials and of the possibilities of evaluation.
The theoretical part was followed by practical field work in the medieval church of St Mary Magdalene in Koeru where different tools and methods were tested and evaluated. The results will be presented and an evaluation report will be jointly compiled by the tutors from Pardubice University and EKA.
