The book, which was prepared in conjunction with the EKA Museum’s exhibition “Invisible Monumental Painting” in the EKA Gallery, provides an overview of the monumental art created by painting students between 1962 and 1995 for the first time. The exciting collection of monumental painting designs of the EKA Museum is presented, which contains conceptual solutions for the execution of various works in fresco and sgraffito, mosaic and stained glass – in all classic techniques of monumental painting.
The book contains an illustrated approach to the study of monumental painting at EKA in the three mentioned decades, illustrated with documentary photos and examples of works, also shedding light on those happy times when students could realize their ideas in architecture. The lists contain information about artists who graduated from the specialty of monumental painting and their diploma works, as well as monumental paintings realized in architecture with photos. The catalog of the exhibition includes all the exhibited works, both designs and works made in the material as thumbnails.
The fate and status of the monumental painting today is also under consideration. Next to Kai Kaljo’s essay based on memories, opinions emerge in the discussion group of painters led by Gregor Taul, where artists representing different generations talk about monumental painting as a separate field, its possibilities and its place in the future, based on personal experiences.
