“The History of Estonian Urban Design 1918-2020” provides an overview of urban planning in the 20th and early 21st centuries through the different periods of power in Estonia, covering both the ideas that remained on paper and those that were implemented. Technological development and shifting political systems in the last century have repeatedly reorganised land ownership and land use, as well as the organisation and financing of urban development in Estonia, and changed both the principles of urban planning and the role of the architect-planner. The book helps to understand the causes of the urban changes that have shaped Estonian cities over the last century into the cities we know today. The book’s editors are Epp Lankots and Triin Ojari.
