Mixed Reality and Audience Participation: Technological Practices of Performative Space (EKA 2025-2026)

T.Jansen and L.Vares introducing a mixed reality performance created within the ACuTe project

The aim of the project would be to investigate in depth the application of new technologies in the performative environment of theater and exhibition spaces. Changes in the technical environment affect all areas of life, as well as theater and exhibition environments, but the peculiarity of the modern situation is that changes in practices are faster than the activity that gives meaning to them.

Our emphasis would be the integration of telecommunication, mixed reality and augmented reality technologies in a performative exhibition and theater environment; the impact of multimodal cultural practices on the activities of performers and viewers in a hybrid art environment. We are also interested in issues related to audience involvement in the exhibition and theater environment in a post-digital cultural situation.

The novelty of the research activity, apart from the merging of practical and analytical (written) activities, would also consist in the handling of new hybrid or symbiotic spaces, which can be understood as a mixture of an exhibition and a theater space.
