^{“The registration to the prestigious Lindström award ended on September 20 and we are so happy to have received so many applications. Students are working on their sketches to compose they portfolios together with online diaries for submission on 20 October. Th students’ names and home institutions will not be hidden, meaning the jury will see the information of each entry when making selections. One aspect to be taken into account is sustainability. Lindström aims t find a business idea that creates workwear from textile wastes. Carrington (http://www.carrington.uk.com/en/), a fabric company from the UK, will sponsor the fabrics. Their fabric collections will be made available
for students to choose from. The company will offer a prize for ‘best use of fabric’ – the winner will have an opportunity to visit London Fashion Week. The finalists’s pattern drawings and fashion drawings will be passed to Lindström pattern makers – students can see their work being made via video meetings (to be fair for students from around the world). Students will lead the making process, but do not make the work themselves.”}

^{Lindström Award is organized every second year by textile service company Lindström Group (http://www.lindstromgroup.com/). Textile company Lindström strengthens the corporate image of its customers. The services support the daily operations of customers, providing the best cost-efficiency on the market. Lindström is a 165-year-old family business.}

^{–      The challenge of this competition was to create a design for Kaubamaja-department store employees. Kaubamaja is the most prestigious and oldest department store in the heart of Tallinn (www.kaubamaja.ee). The participant had to be a student in an educational institution where fashion or textile design study program is offered.}

^{–      There were 12 students altogether from Estonia (seven of them from EAA) participating in the competition. There are around 220 participants altogether, almost half of them from India, half from Europe. Few people also from Indonesia and South-Korea.}

^{–      Part of Lindström Award experience is a series of online lectures which are mostly held by the members of the jury.}

^{–      Competition jury evaluates the designs on 7th November and five finalist designs will be chosen. From November to January the finalists will participate to manufacturing process: fittings and refining technical instructions. Collections are manufactured in Tallinn, Estonia by Portex OÜ (http://www.portex.ee/). The ready-made collections will be evaluated and the winner will be chosen in Tallinn, Estonia on 12th February 2015. Winner will be recognized with 3000 € price and a possibility for a trainee period in work wear designing team.}

^{–      Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA) is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary this year (https://www.artun.ee/). University’s academic personnel shares its know-how about textile design and fashion with Lindström representative Tarja Hämäläinen. Textile Design department (prof Nithikul Nimkulrat, associate prof Krista Leesi) and Fashion Design department (prof Marit Ahven, lecturer Anu Ojavee) are organizing a special course for their students to participate in the competition.}
