We would like to draw your attention to the artist talk with Fideelia-Signe
Roots on Tuesday, 13th of January at 6 pm at
EAA gallery, Freedom Square 6/8.Artist talk by Ruuda Liisa Malin, music
improvisation on piano by Gerhard Lock.
Solo exhibition The Heroine’s Yourney by Estonian Academy of Arts’ PhD
student Fideelia-Signe Roots presents stories of the masculine connoted
phrase hero. By reproducing mythological characters, the artist is trying
to disillusion the archetypal narratives rooted in the society.
At the current exhibition the artist plays mainly with two concepts: heroic
versus sexualised female body, by looking at Joseph Campbell (1904–1987)
hero’s journey model through a feminist prism. Campbell’s ideas were based
on the well-known myths which he constructed into a single so-called
monomyth, universal hero’s journey scheme which premise is the existence of
a male hero. The Heroine’s Journey represents the artist herself passing
through different variations of the hero’s journey.
Fideelia-Signe Roots’s solo exhibition The Heroine’s Journey is part of
her doctoral dissertation at the Doctoral School of Art and Design at the
Estonian Academy of Arts. Previewing the part of her doctoral dissertation is
on Wendesday, 21st of January at 2 pm at the EAA gallery. Doctoral
supervisors are Prof. Dr. Katrin Kivimaa and Prof. Dr. Tiina Ann
Kirss. Exhibition reviewers are Dr.
Margus Ott (Tallinn University) and Dr. Eve Annuk (Estonian
Literary Museum).
