The Estonian Academy of Arts Faculty of Architecture is developing a doctoral programme in Architecture and Urban Planning in cooperation with a network of international architecture schools, as partner of ADAPT-r project.
The core feature of the methodological model offered by ADAPT-r and the Estonian Academy of Arts practice-led PhD program is that new knowledge is developed by reflection on, through and for creative practice.
The upcoming ADAPT-r Day aims to give an insight into practitioners’ diverse methodologies in conducting their PhDs, related challenges and discoveries.
“Creative Practice = Research Methods” urges the presenters to reveal how the practice methods are the same as (not differ from) research methods. What are the key elements of creative practice research methods? Speakers will contribute to the discussion by presenting their own observations and heuristic.
Contributions by both ADAPT-r fellows and the Faculty’s doctoral candidates aim to trigger the debate with local practitioners, students and candidates from other fields (arts, design, technology, engineering, social sciences and humanities in general, etc).
ADAPT-r (acronym for Architecture, Design and Art Practice Training-Research) is an ITN Initial Training Network funded within the FP7 Marie Curie Program. ADAPT-r is a network of seven academic institutions and engages with design studios.
The project includes 40 fellowships, 7 training conferences, a major research conference, a major exhibition, five key books, and a website providing public access to research and events.
The PhD supported by the ADAPT-r project is structured through three years of research, and is organised in six Practice Research Symposia (two per year, held in Ghent and in Barcelona), namely the PRS, in which the practitioners are invited to present their research and submit it to public consideration.
