In many ways, the studio may be considered a logical continuation of the course work completed in the previous term. Having aempted to describe technically demanding, time-consuming and abstract ideas on paper, students now need to develop it further in the form of a three-dimensional model. The additional dimension, material properties (thickness, processability, resilience) teach the students to work with imitations and turn it to their advantage. The reworking of solutions and learning from one’s mistakes is a natural part of the process. The idea or emotion set as the starting point will be realized in 1-3 mm cardboard within five days. The time limit forces them to start experimenting immediately without any previous sketches. There will be several preliminary versions with the progress relying on the trial-error method. It oen forms the basis for the emergence of interesting and unforeseen solutions. The outcome of the studio includes three-dimensional models subject to physical forces (for instance, tensile force or compression) that allow their shape be changed without the risk of breakage.
