Sharing Experiences
May 27 – 31, 2024, physically in Tallinn

Sharing Experiences
Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn, Estonia
27th – 31st May 2024

Our theme, Sharing Experiences, covers:
1. Communication Challenges at HEIs in Crises – Andres Lõo and Laura Jüristo will guide discussions on navigating communication during crises.
2. Challenges and Practices of Quality Assurance in Higher Arts Education –  Valerie Smet from KASK, Belgium and Kristiina Krabi-Klanberg from EKA will lead exchanges and discussions on quality and accreditation processes.
3. Learner centeredness in digitally enhanced learning environments – Kaja Toomla will explore emerging possibilities and practical challenges that digitalisation brings along.

These sessions aim to inspire and equip educators and administrators for an evolving educational landscape and we invite you to actively participate in talks, presentations and discussions.

Propositions for looking otherwise
The session frames the International Week with an invitation to connect with its subject matter(s) from new perspectives. It’s a proposition to engage with the art academy and its infrastructures while suspending the intensity of your current work position. Doing so, we hope to generate proposals for looking otherwise, new positions from which to engage and to look, that are rooted in our intrinsic motivation, love for education and human needs. How might we organise crisis communication differently if we think about it through the principles of nonviolence? When our institutions are accredited, given credit, then to whom are we in debt? As we design student centred education, how do we actually get to know our students? Frederik Klanberg and Rebecca Duclos will lead the session and offer a new take on self study, to give you some time and space for thought and grounding, before you leap into the programme of the International Week.

We cordially invite our Ukrainian partners from Lviv to stay in EKA longer: to observe the evaluations and exams of the students and also to participate as external evaluators at our examination sessions.

The week not only offers invaluable insights for leaders, educators, researchers, and administrative staff but also includes a special highlight: the EKA graduation show, TASE 2024. This event showcases the exceptional talent of our graduates, offering a glimpse into the future of art, design, architecture, and cultural studies. We strongly encourage active participation, particularly in sessions that resonate with these creative fields.

As an ERASMUS BIP event, commitment throughout the week is important. This event qualifies for the Erasmus+ programme (staff training or teaching).

Practical information:
Transport

The public transport network operates from 6:00 to 23:30 daily (on Friday-Sunday also some Night buses named ÖÖ). The ticket system works on a random-inspection basis: you don’t have to show anything to the driver. Simply remember to validate each entry at one of the orange validators (or risk a €40 fine). It is not necessary to re-validate your ticket when exiting the vehicle.

Please note! We have ongoing construction of the new tramline. Therefore there will be temporary changes in public transport routes and some tram lines are closed. You might experience some traffic jams and it’s a lovely walk through the Old Town as an alternative.

Arriving from the airport

Tallinn is small and well connected with the airport. You can use bus number 2 from Airport (Lennujaam) to the city center. Timetables are HERE.
Bolt is the most common taxi / scooter app, which you can download and connect with your credit card.

Water

We recommend bringing a drinking bottle with you, because tap water in Tallinn is drinkable.

We eagerly anticipate your presence in Tallinn for a fruitful and engaging experience.
