On 27 November, the nominees for the Estonian Interior Architects’ Association’s Annual Award 2024 were announced. Among the nominees are several renowned and long-standing alumni of the Department of Interior Architecture. Congratulations! We are particularly pleased that our recent graduates have made it to the list of nominees.
In particular, we would like to highlight the renovation of the Pencil Hall of the Bank of Estonia, where the competition entry was first completed as a studio project by undergraduate students Anet Lukas, Marit-Brit Tamme, Maria Uiboaid and Agota Maziliauskaitè. Many thanks to the excellent supervisors Margit Argus, Maris Kerge and Kadri Kerge!
Ann-Katriin Kelder, who graduated this spring and is now a lecturer , contributed to the design of the Tallinn Airport lounge. Congratulations on the good work!
ESL press release:
This year, the Estonian Interior Architects’ Association’s annual award competition received 47 entries, from which the jury selected 12 nominees. The jury consisted of interior architects Hanna Karits and Reio Raudsepp, interior architect and architect Lauri Nõmme, architectural historian Epp Lankots, and the chairman of the board of the Finnish Interior Designers’ Association, interior architect Lars Räihä. The Estonian Interior Designers’ Association will award three prizes from the nominated entries, and the winners will be announced at a festive architecture awards ceremony in January 2025.
Most of the works submitted for the competition have a public orientation, with more aware municipalities and private clients joining the ranks of the RKAS (State Real Estate Agency). The jury chairman, Reio Raudsepp, believes that good spatial culture has found its way to the smart client, which in turn testifies to the high quality of Estonian interior architecture.
Renovated buildings stand out among the nominated projects. The completed works are characterised by calm decisions taken over a long period of time, influenced by the crises that have shaken the world. The new educational buildings in Estonia are teaching the next generation to appreciate good architecture, as witnessed by the state gymnasiums and the school buildings commissioned by local authorities.
This year, more private sector properties, from hotels and nature resorts to representative offices, stood out. In the private sector, we are delighted by the filigree interior design, where every millimetre has been thought through. According to Reio Raudsepa, chairman of the jury, the interior architects’ thorough and sensitive work makes the spaces an event in Estonian culture.
