Sanjo City University in Japan is a new institution focused on nurturing creative
technologists in partnership with the Tsubame-Sanjo region, which is globally renowned
for its exceptional metalworking industry; it is home to approximately 3,300 workshops,
ranging from small blacksmith shops with a sole craftsman to larger factories employing
up to 300 creative technologists. The products created in Tsubame-Sanjo embody core
principles of good design: simplicity, functionality, appropriate material use, and
durability, and these attributes set high standards for both functional and aesthetic
quality within Japan and beyond its borders.
