"Pre-Raphaelite Dream I Lord Leighton" Hanna Kaisa Korolainen
Textile 110 is a series of events celebrating the 110th anniversary of EKA’s textile design education, as part of which a series of open lectures focusing on textiles will be held, a series of publications will be published, and a selection of works from the EKA Museum’s textile collection can be seen throughout the year.
The lecture series opens up the spectrum of diverse opportunities in the field of textiles, both in design, industry, and creative practices, bringing out different roles and methods of creation in the field through various invited guests.
On 30.10.2024 at 16:30, in room A501, Hanna Kaisa Korolainen’s lecture “The making of Inspiration” will take place, which focuses on the artist’s research and opens up her work, which extends from textiles to other media. Hanna Kaisa Korolainen is a designer, artist and lecturer at Aalto University. He defended his doctoral thesis The making of Inspiration at Aalto University in 2022.
On 25.11.2024 at 16:30, in room A501, Hanna Norrna’s lecture “Metamorphosis in Weaving” focuses on the creative practice centered on silk. Norrna grows her own silkworms, watches the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies and processes their cocoons into silk, which in turn is woven into fabrics. Mythologies, spirituality and materiality intertwine in his practice.

“Textiles in One Hundred and Ten Squares” consists of checkered fabrics, which have been made during the course of studies at EKA and given to the museum’s collection.
In the Textile 110 publications, which appear as a series of prints, one meets textile artists and designers of different generations. We talk about rituals, symbols, heritage, monumentality, the sense of material, the dimension of time and, of course, the role of textiles in the creative practice and life of all participants. Johanna Ulfsak and Peeter Kuutma and Kärt Ojavee and Erika Tammpere meet in the first two issues.
