Writing Urban Places Training School for PhD students and young researchers

The Training School on Local Stories and Visual Narratives will take place on March 25th-27th 2020 at the Estonian Academy of the Arts.
It will focus on the use of local stories in urban research. Participants will engage in site visits, analysis workshops, discussions and lectures. Day 1 focuses on local urban stories, taking the city of Tallinn as an example. Participants will discuss historical, semantical and archetypal settings of the narratives. The knowledge from the local storieswill be compared with stories related to the knowledge and ongoing reserach investigations of participants. Central to the training school is a reflection on Methods, Visuals and Stories. Also digital tools related to narratives will be discussed.
Established in 1914, the Estonian Academy of Arts is the leading university in Estonia for architecture and urbanism, fine arts, design, media, visual studies, art culture, as well as conservation. Academy is located on the border of Medieval Hanseatic old city of Tallinn – a perfect place for urban investigations.
